Occupational Therapy
We provide adult acute and community care from Taranaki Base Hospital and Hawera Hospital.
Paediatric Occupational Services are provided in the Child & Adolescent Community Centre and Mental Health Occupational Therapy Services from the Mental Health Unit (Te Puna Waiora).
Occupational Therapists are involved in all wards to provide treatment, education and rehabilitation, on referral.
The service provides a wheelchair and equipment hire or loan service, as appropriate, for patients returning home after an injury or illness. We visit people in their home to assess any special equipment or modifications that might be necessary for the patient to cope with reduced mobility during their rehabiliation and in the longer term.
Referral is made by a GP or specialist. ACC and non-ACC referrals are accepted.
The Outpatients Department is open from 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
