Emergency Department - Taranaki Base Hospital
The Emergency Department at Taranaki Base Hospital is run by a highly skilled staff trained in specialist emergency care.
Anyone presenting at the Emergency Department is seen in order of priority for medical attention, rather than order of arrival. This is a process known as Triage.
The Emergency suite has two resuscitation beds, five treatment rooms, five treatment cubicles and nine observation beds, a separate observation room, with separate family and interview rooms to allow privacy for family members and whanau.
The unit has eight mobile monitors, feeding back to a central monitor in the central nurses’ station.
To guarantee staff and patient safety at all times, the ambulance bay and reception areas are monitored by closed-circuit television and the department can be made secure by a remote locking system controlled by staff.
