Preliminary work, mainly diversion of sewer, storm water, water, power and phone lines, around the construction site is ongoing for the month of August.

Currently work is focusing on watermain diversion. Within the site Fletcher Construction are doing preliminary excavation works to prepare the area for build.

Crane components arrived safely on site over the last two weeks for the erection of two cranes which started on Monday 8 August.

The cranes stand around 20m above the existing hospital with the highest crane being approximately 50 metres tall. It has taken 16 truckloads to get all crane components onto the site for assembly.

Fletcher Construction is operating a two crane system because the reach radius covers the entire building area and allows for faster work and quicker completion of the building structure. The cranes will be in use from the beginning of September when the construction officially begins.

A reminder that there is no through traffic between the Tukapa St. Hospital entrance and Lyn Street.  A barrier arm has been installed and only authorised and emergency vehicles will be able to proceed through the barrier.

Preliminary work is continuing on the site with Health Minister RT Hon Tony Ryall here on August 30th to mark the beginning of the official construction phase of Project Maunga.
