Hawera Hospital Community Committee
The committee was established in 2002 to oversee the implementation of the Pisk report with focus on retention and recruitment of medical staff at Hawera Hospital. This collaborative and focused approach has made significant progress.
As well as success in helping maintain a complement of three medical officers, the Steering Committee has been able to draw on community resources to ensure the new Doctors and their families are able to settle comfortably and happily into the Hawera community. Other roles include facilitating communication between the community and the Taranaki DHB, as well as providing commentary on service delivery at Hawera Hospital.
Former Taranaki District Health Board chairman Hayden Wano said the Steering Committee was an example of the Taranaki DHB and the community working together to recruit and retain staff in Hawera.
