Mary Bourke (Chairman)

mary bourkeMary Bourke is a former Mayor of the South Taranaki District and a long-term advocate for health services in the region. Her committee roles at the health board include the Hospital Advisory Committee and the Community Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee. Mary is a Trustee of the Bishop’s Action Foundation in Taranaki and the TSB Community Trust. She chairs the WITT (Western Institute of Technology in Taranaki) Council, and has recently accepted a role on the Interim Governance Board for a New Families Centre (locally).

Peter Catt (Deputy Chairman)

peter cattPeter has been a GP with the Family Health Centre in New Plymouth for more than 20 years and is the Clinical Director of Hauora Taranaki PHO. He was elected to the Board and is Deputy Chairman. He is Chairman of the Hospital Advisory Committee, a member of the Finance, Audit and Compliance Committee, and a member of the Compensation and Appointments Committee.

Kura Denness

kura dennessKura Denness MBA CA has a background in corporate finance. She is a director of the following organisations: Te Matai Whetu Limited, PHARMAC, Te Atiawa (Taranaki) Holdings Limited and Te Atiawa (Taranaki) Settlements Trust, and is on the Council of Massey University. Kura is also Chairman of Tui Ora Limited and Hauora Taranaki PHO Ltd. Kura is Deputy Chairman of the Hospital Advisory Committee and Chairman of the Finance, Audit and Compliance Committee. She is also a member of the Allied Laundry Board. Kura is the mother of two young sons and is of Te Atiawa descent.

Alex Ballantyne

alex ballantyneAlex lives in Eltham in South Taranaki. He is married and has four children. His community involvement includes District Councillor STDC, Trustee TSB Community Trust, Chairman/Advocate Central and South Taranaki Advocacy Service and Parish Worker St Joseph’s Eltham. He is also a member of the Peak Health Taranaki Local Management Group. Alex is a member of the Finance Audit and Compliance Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Community and Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee.

 

Flora Gilkison

flora gilkinsonFlora has lived in New Plymouth for more than 20 years. Flora is an elected member of the District Health Board, where she is Chairman of the Community & Public Health Committee and Disability Support Advisory Committee, and a member of the Compensation and Appointments Committee. Flora is also a board member of the Fulford Radiology Services Limited. Flora has a Doctorate in Management and a strong senior management background including past Director General for New Zealand Red Cross and Dean of Faculty of Business and Technology at the Waikato Institute of Technology. She is currently working as Principal of Pacific International Hotel Management School in Bell Block.

 

Karen Eagles

karen eaglesKaren has had a wide community involvement since settling in Taranaki in 1972 and prior to being elected to the DHB was the Health and Disability Commissioner Advocate for Taranaki. Karen is a member of the Hospital Advisory Committee and the Community & Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee.Since 2008 she has taken a leadership role with Royal New Zealand Plunket Society as a Councillor.

 

Ella Borrows

ella burrowsElla has had wide involvement in education, social service and community law committees and boards since moving to South Taranaki in 1986. Currently she is Chair of the South Taranaki Medical Trust and until her election to the Board, was an Associate of the Health Consumer Service, a complaint resolution service for health consumers in the Taranaki region. Ella is a member of the Community and Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee and is Chair of the Hospital Advisory Committee.

 

Alison Rumball

alison rumballAlison Rumball has had a long involvement in educational, environmental and community affairs and, as a New Plymouth District Councillor for nine years, she advocated strongly and successfully for policies and strategies which have promoted positive health and wellbeing outcomes for the people of our District. Tertiary qualifications as a Hearing Commissioner has also given her significant experience and insight into Government legislation and the implications that has for Health Boards. Currently she is the President of the Cancer Society of New Zealand Taranaki and a Trustee of the New Plymouth Positive Ageing Trust. Alison is a member of the Hospital Advisory Committee and the Community & Public Health and Disability Support Advisory Committee. .

 

Colleen Tuuta

colleen tuutaColleen Tuuta is affiliated to the following tribes: Taranaki Tuturu, Ngati Mutunga, Te Atiawa, and Ngati Mahuta. During the past 30 years Colleen has worked extensively in community development, Maori business and economic development, and more recently in regional development. Colleen is currently a Director of the TSB Bank Limited, a Government appointed representative for NZ Women on the Public Advisory Council for the Legal Services Agency of the Ministry of Justice in NZ, a Trustee on Mahia Mai a Whai-Tara Trust – an A&D Health provider, New Plymouth Girl’s High School – Board of Trustee, Philanthropy NZ – Maori Advisory Committee member, a Trustee a Trustee of Inspiring Communities Exchange.

 

Brian Jeffares

Brian JeffaresBrian is an elected member of the District Health Board and has previously been an appointed member of the Hospital Advisory Committee. He has an extensive background in community work having served nine years as the Mayor of Stratford District. Presently he chairs the Stratford Health Trust, the Taranaki Electricity Trust and the Central and South Youth Development Trust. He is also an elected member of the Taranaki Regional Council and chairs the Emergency management group.
